ALASKA
A walking bear safari with incredible close bear encounters
Embark on an expedition like no other! Visit a region that is only accessible by ship or floatplanes and spend a week intimately close to bears who walk around only a few meters from you, even with small bear cubs – no fenses or barriers between you and these majestic creatures. And all of that in a safe way!
Even though this kind of activity can pump adrenaline through your body and raise your heart rate, in the same way as with mountain gorillas, if you respect the bears, they will respect you back… and you will make a memory of a lifetime to share, that you would normalny think impossible.
A bear encounter
A bear encounter
Explore South-East areas and hidden bays of Katmai National Park that are the opposite of crowded and are rarely visited by tourists, mainly because there is no infrastructure, no hotels, no harbours and the whole region is only accessble by a ship or a floatplane.
You will be accompanied by bears, wolves, eagles, otters and maybe even whales or orcas as well as epic Alaskan wilderness and mountain peaks, where most of them have never even been climbed.
During the trip you will be based on a small, but fully equipped vessel, that will allow you to transfer from bay to bay and do shore landings daily by using zodiacs/RIBs. You will land in many different locations where you will be surrounded by wild brown bears of Katmai.
We will have a specialized bear and wilderness guide – Erik – who is a member of our group and his job is to make sure that you will be able to get as close to the bears as possible, often within a few meters! Erik makes sure that you have a safe experience, but you will not believe how close to the bears it is possible to get! Just check the photos and videos from our previous excursions in 2022 and 2024.
This journey is designed for a maximum of 10 participants and the crew (5 boat crew members and Erik). The whole experience is quite intimate and private and chances are that we will see just a handful of other people (far from us) during the whole expedition.
The excursion starts in Kodiak, Alaska where we spend a night and then the next day take floatplanes to undertake a 45-min flight to Katmai where we land on water and board our chartered boat. Then we spend an epic week in this beautiful place.
There is no exact itinerary regarding the week onboard the ship in Katmai, mostly because Mother Nature is the one affecting our experience the most and we have to respect her, mainly in the terms of safety. So we will choose bays and landings based on the best conditions at any given day and we will also consider the needs and requests of our group as a whole. If we want to stay at one place for a few days, we can, and if we want to explore more, do a hike inland or see something specific, we can tailor this on the stop of course, if the nature allows.
Our main goal, apart from safety, is to create the best possible experience and spend as much time outside the ship, on land, as possible.
